Guide

How heroes work in Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era

A hero in Olden Era is more than a portrait above an army. Heroes set the pace of a run: scouting the map, gathering troops, strengthening them with skills and magic, collecting artifacts, and turning small victories into several turns of advantage. Current data is based on beta materials, so hero rosters, numbers, and individual mechanics may change before release.

Faction, class, and start

Each hero belongs to a faction and class, starts with an army, and has a specialization. That combination hints at the best role: main combat leader, caster, scout, economy helper, or a hero built for fast map tasks.

Four core stats

Attack raises army damage, defense reduces incoming damage, spell power strengthens spells, and knowledge controls the mana pool. Starting values and growth chances depend on class, so warriors and casters develop differently even inside the same faction.

Experience and leveling

Experience comes from battles and map rewards. Levels open new growth, but fast progression often uses more than combat: experience skills, one-time objects, sacrifice rewards, and choices that unlock strong subskills earlier.

Artifacts and laws

Artifacts can reshape the power of even a low-level hero, while faction laws add long-term bonuses for an army style. It helps to read hero pages together with linked skills, spells, troops, and the native faction.

Movement tempo

Movement decides who claims objects, gathers resources, and chooses the fight first. Logistics, movement spells, roads, and weekly map effects can matter more than raw stat numbers, especially during the first weeks.
